Welcome

Peak Dale Primary School is a small, friendly school situated in the village of Peak Dale, near Buxton, Derbyshire. We enjoy helping children reach their potential in a caring environment. Please navigate around our website to find out more.

Headteacher’s Welcome

A very warm welcome to our small and friendly primary school. We have 70 pupils on roll, from 4 to 11 years, who learn in three mixed age classes. Also, the local pre-school joins us on Wednesdays, working in the hall in the morning, having lunch and then joining with Class 1 for outdoor learning known as “Welly Wednesday” in the afternoon. During my teaching career I have taught every year group from Reception to Year 6 and enjoy interacting daily with every child, making them all feel special and valued.

Every member of staff is committed to developing the whole child, encouraging emotional health and well-being as well as physical and academic achievement. A child who feels secure, happy, settled and safe learns best and is far more able to reach his/her full potential. Our children see their teacher as their advocate for they work hard to get to know every pupil well which helps unlock learning. Regular discussions together with our robust individual tracking system ensure learners who need extra support are identified early and effective intervention strategies planned, implemented and evaluated. Gifted and talented pupils are challenged too and everyone’s voice is valued. Our school is fully inclusive – children with SEND (Special Educational Needs/Disability) take part in all aspects of school life from extra-curricular activities to having a significant part in our Christmas and summer shows. Communication with parents/carers is also highly valued and we offer an open door policy. The triangular relationship between child, home and school is paramount in terms of maximising learning and enjoyment at primary school, preparing our pupils for transition to secondary school and ultimately for life in modern Britain.

A new curriculum has been developed which is broad and balanced and helps our children to become curious, inquisitive, questioning learners who enjoy working together and making decisions whilst showing respect for the views and opinions of others. Our PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) underpins our ethos and contributes directly to developing each child’s moral compass; starting from understanding right and wrong and sharing, moving to helping set and follow our school rules and ultimately leading to knowledge of the laws of the land. Extra-curricular activities enrich the child’s experience and over the year we offer a wide range of clubs including Key Stage 1 Sports, Key Stage 2 Sports, Dance, Art, Football, Choir and others, plus guest visitors and out of school visits.

Peak Dale Primary School expects and promotes excellent behaviour and safety which contribute to a positive learning climate. Both our Victorian buildings are very well maintained and all three classrooms are large, bright and stimulating environments in which pupils and staff can work happily and safely. All our adults are good role models exemplifying respect, resilience and determination. Our children are nurtured, engaged and motivated. It is our aim that every pupil enjoys their time at Peak Dale Primary and achieves their full potential.

If you would like to visit or talk to me, please ‘phone, e-mail or just pop in. I am usually in the office on Mondays and Tuesdays and available before and after school. You will be very welcome.
